As you probably already know from reading my blog, I am a vegan mama of 5. If you have not read my blog before, please allow me to introduce myself. Hello, I am Grown As Mama and I am a vegan mama of 5! Pleased to meet you all! I also have a Facebook and Instagram page as well. So if you are on either of these social media platforms, look me up! I usually do talk a little about being vegan and show some of the things I eat on my “90 Days of TurboFire” blog but I decided that since I got a little behind on that blog that I would create a whole separate blog for Veganism. I have not been vegan my whole life but just recently decided to go vegan. I figure better late than never, right? I have been vegan for about 10 months now. I can’t wait till my one year anniversary! I feel like I have learned and changed so much this year. I feel like a whole new person in some ways. I first became vegan for my health. I always knew deep down inside that the key to good health is to eat more veggies. When people decide to get healthier they don’t say, “Hmm, I think I need to eat more meat!”. I have never heard this one before. They say, “I need to eat more salads or more vegetables!”. I then went vegan for the animals once I learned more about what was happening to them. How they were being raped, tortured, and murdered. The inhumane and sadistic practices of not only the agriculture business but the egg and dairy businesses as well. Then after watching Documentaries such as What The Health and Cowspiracy and After The Flood, I went vegan for the environment and the planet! People can turn a blind eye if they want but just because you ignore a problem doesn’t mean it ceases to exist. Climate change is real and animal agriculture has a lot to do with it.
Vegan For The Health Of It!
I initially decided to go vegan for my health. I knew I wasn’t healthy at all and I needed to make a change. I felt like I was having symptoms of becoming Diabetic. I have been told by my Fathers side of the family that Diabetes runs in our family. I have since learned that Type 2 diabetes is NOT hereditary and there are factors that cause you to get and that you can reverse those factors if you really want to. It may run in the family but that is because of the dietary choices that have been handed down from generation to generation. I feel so much better now than I did 10 months ago. It actually feels like its been way longer than 10 months. People tell me all the time that they wish they could go vegan but it would be to hard for them. Nothing is too hard if you put your mind to it. I did tons of research on being vegan. I watch videos on YouTube all the time. Vegan recipes for kids, vegan Thanksgiving recipes, Things that you thought were vegan but are not and things that ARE vegan that you may not know are just a few of the subjects I searched for. Google was my best friend. I google all kinds of vegan topics or questions I have. I watched documentaries on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, YouTube. I followed every prominent Vegan Activist or figure that I could on Instagram and Facebook. I put in the work. It may seem hard at first but if you consistently put in the work then you will succeed. You might make some mistakes along the way but as long as you are trying then you achieving.
Vegan For The Babies!
I usually say that I am vegan for the animals. It might not have started that way but that’s how it is now. After watching documentaries like Earthlings and the new documentary Dominion, I now see the animals when I look at meat. The animal agriculture businesses’ have been very successful when it comes to covering up the animal aspect of meat. I remember asking my kids shortly after becoming vegan, if they knew where meat came from and they did not know. They never thought about it and didn’t have to. This is the majority of people on the planet. We go to our local grocery store and there is prepackaged meat. It is already cut up and cleaned and doesn’t resemble the animal at all at that point. But what if bacon and hamburger meat and chicken wings weren’t cut up before hand. What if you had to buy a whole pig carcass or a whole chicken with the head. Their lifeless eyes devoid of life, staring up at you. Did you know that when most animals are slaughtered they are anywhere from a month to a few months old… babies! Cows are a few years old… children! We are eating babies! We are feeding our babies, babies! I have now gotten to that place in my vegan journey where I see everything for what it really is. Death. I no longer look at pizza commercials and fast food commercials the same. Double meat and triple cheese and all the while making you think that this is what you want but they are paid by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) to advertise for the cheesiest and the meatiest and to come up with catch phrases. You begin to think that you are just a foodie but its brainwashing. In real life I try not to debate with people on such subjects. To each his own and if they do want info then I give it freely. But this is my blog and I will tell it all on my blog… because I’m a Grown As(s) Mama and I can! lol 🙂
Vegan For The Planet!
Global Warming scares the shit outta me! Excuse my language but it really does. The melting polar ice caps and all of these extreme weather patterns. At the rate we are going we will have fishless oceans due to over fishing and widespread species extinction due to over killing. If the Oceans die, WE DIE! If the Bee’s die, WE DIE! Gary Yourofsky said it best in The Best Speech Ever. that Human Beings are the most unimportant species on the planet. We could die off and the planet would actually be a better place!!! Bees on the other hand pollinate the food we grow and with out them we would die, plants would die. This goes for a lot of other species on this planet but not us. Why can’t we just live and let live? I don’t understand why people know this and still choose to eat meat but hopefully a day will come when they open their eyes and see. These politicians who receive millions of dollars to help pass bills to keep the truth hidden. Don’t they know that their kids and grand kids will suffer for their greed? I just hope it’s not too late before they wake up and see that this planet belongs to all of us!
