I made it past DAY 8, Mama’s!!! Woohoo!!
I’m going to talk about temptations today instead of my workout. Also, I will not be doing weekly picture. I decided to do Bi-weekly instead. So I will post my next pics on the 22nd or the 23rd. I did Core 20 and Stretch 40 yesterday which wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be considering I took 2 days off before hand. The core workouts weren’t as bad as I though. My core is definitely my problem spot. It was even more of a challenge because of my 1 year old Sammie. Sammie decided that since i was laying on the floor, this meant it was time for big ole baby kisses! He was practically smothering me with huge slobbery wet baby kisses! lol It was annoying AND cute! <3 The stretch 40- was definitely challenging for me. I am apparently not that flexible. I’m sure I’ll get better as time goes by. But like I said, this post isn’t about the workout so much. Today it’s about the temptations! Whats your worst temptation while on a diet? The things that tempt you the most. Those foods that pop up in your dreams and you wake up in a sweat thinking you had just ate or drank a whole… blah, blah, blah! I haven’t had any dreams yet but yesterday was my first full day with no soda so maybe in a few days? Well here are a few of my top temtations. I’m sure some of you will relate to a few of these things as well.
Temptation: Chips and Popcorn
Now it may come as a shock to you but growing up, I wasn’t a big chip eater. I ate them here and there but never over doing it. I’ve heard so many times that everything is OK in moderation. This does not apply to me and a bag of popcorn though. I will eat a whole bag of popcorn or chips in one sitting! In my mind, a good movie isn’t a good movie unless there is popcorn and snacks! Especially when you have as many little ones as I have. Me and the hubby don’t really go to the movies now a days because the prices are just astronomical. Why spend almost a hundred dollars movie tickets and snacks when we can watch it when it comes out on Amazon Prime or Netflix or Hulu? We can go to the dollar store and get all the same things they have at the movies for a fraction of the price and you don’t have to worry about people complainingh about your baby making too much noise! Anyways, I’m getting off subject. Popcorn is saturated in unhealthy oils and so are chips. There is nothing healthy about these items so they are now on my temptations list. Whats a better option to try?
Alternative: Fresh fruit and vegetables.
Try veggies and hummus of even fruit and hummus. I’ve seen the dessert hummus in certain stores now.
Temptation: Soda and juices.
Both of these are my worst enemy. Right along with that bag of popcorn or chips, I can usually drink about a 2 liter of cola or whatever soda is available. For me it’s like an addiction. I’ve heard people tell me how soda is not that bad. Again, quoting the whole moderation thing. People tell me all of the time, “I just drink one 12 ounce can a day or a week” You just need to stop drinking so much of it and you’ll be fine.” That is good, great, and fine for them but for me that doesn’t work! For me it’s like an alcoholic with a beer. It’ll start of as one can a day. Then two cans after a few days, and then by the next week maybe three cans. Next thing you know I’ll be drinking whole 2 liters a day if not more! Lying to my hubby about how many of his sodas I drank while he was at work! So what is a good alternative?
Alternative: Good ole fashioned WATER and Crystal Light packets.
You can never drink too much water. It will always be good for you and it never goes out of style. If you need a little sweetness then try Crystal Light. They have all different flavors and I believe they are still zero calories. Since I have started this fitness journey, I have been tracking the amount of water I drink every day so that I can make sure I am getting enough. Water is good for your digestive health.
Temptation: Candy, cakes, and sugary snacks.
I was just watching a documentary last night with Dr. Edelstein from the Forks Over Knives documentary and he had given grades to all the different types of foods according to the damage they cause our epithelial cells. The processed foods like cakes and cookies, and stuff got a better grade than the animal products! I think they got a D and the animal products were a flat out F. That made me chuckle. Even though these foods aren’t that bad of a temptation for me, once I get about a week into soda and popcorn and snack withdrawal, even these things will become tempting to me. Sugar just has so many empty calories and does nothing for us. It might give us that little spike in energy but it will always be followed by that inevitable crash. If you looking for something to help satisfy that sweet tooth try these instead.
Alternative: Fresh Fruit.
When I first became vegan back in January, I had no idea where to start. I know about all the vegan snacks now but back then, I knew nothing, So I decided to stick with the simple things, especially when dealing with Nikki’s many allergies like gluten, soy, egg, and milk. You know how toddlers are when it comes to sweets, right? So fruits was the best option. No labels to read! What you see is what you get! And these are natural sugars, Natures sugars! Apples, Oranges, Bananas, Pears, Nectarines, Peaches, etc… and endless variety!
