So I have finally achieved a milestone. I have been working out for a whole month. Yay, me! Even just typing this seems surreal. I don’t think I’ve really worked out since after the birth of my 6 year old son Lil Will in 2012. I gave birth to Nikki Jr. in 2015 and then to Sammi Jr in 2017. (No, neither is really a Jr but that’s what I call them! lol) That means I had been pregnant for the better part of 3 years. That’s a really, really long time. I sometimes forget that my weight gain didn’t happen overnight. Which probably means it is not going to go away overnight, either. So why is it so hard for us mama’s to remember that?
Note To Self… Be Nice!
We spend 9 months pregnant and nurturing a life inside of us and then we spend however many months afterwards nursing our baby directly from our bodies. We were eating for 2! Why are we so hard on ourselves?!?! We rock!!! Our belly was a baby nurturing sanctuary. A garden of growth. If we never get a six pack, it’s OK because that pooch gave us the most beautiful little blessings in the world!
Rome Wasn’t Built Overnight!
I have been working out for 6 weeks now. 5 times a week at that! I’ve lost a total of 12 pounds last checked last week. I don’t understand why it is not more than that. It can be very infuriating when you are trying so hard and not seeing the results on the scale. So of course I did what any one would do when they get frustrated and need advice. I called my mom! She told me to stop looking at the scale because when you first start to workout you will see the changes on your body before you see it on the scale. I was like, WHAT?!?!? So I am trying to not focus on the scale now. I have noticed a change in how my clothes fit but my stomach is extra stubborn and I still feel like I look pregnant. I guess I just have to follow my own advice and be nice to myself and remember that birthing TWO breastfed babies in a little over two years means that belly fat might take longer than a month to get rid of! My mother told me it will probably be around the 4 month mark that I will probably start to see a more significant change on the scale. So patience, grasshoppers! You will get there!!!
Just have fun!
Whatever it is that your doing for physical fitness, just remember to have fun. It’s usually easier to stick to a workout plan when its something you actually enjoy doing. Mix it up a little if you get bored. Try new things so that you don’t get stuck in a rut. Right now I am doing TurboJam with Chalene Johnson. It has 6 workout routines and a schedule that has me doing a different workout everyday. Its a dancy, kind of kick boxing workout and its FUN! I enjoy doing it which keeps me coming back everyday for more… and the music is so catchy that I find myself humming it at work! lol
Just remember… Slow progress is better than no progress!
