Welcome back, Mama’s!!!
So if you read my blog posts regularly then you know that I decided to adopt a vegan diet on January 28th. I think it was the 28th or the 29th. One of those. I did slip about half way or a quarter of the way through the month and ate some fried chicken that my Husband had ordered for our son’s birthday party. I was a little disappointed in myself but I didn’t let it stop me from still doing what I set out to do and that was to stop contributing to the abuse of animals. The crazy part to me was that the hard part wasn’t staying away from meat but to stop eating dairy! Cheese is pretty easy and not buying the eggs and milk was already easy due to my son’s milk allergy plus they even make vegan butter. The hard part is the stuff you don’t see. There is milk and eggs in practically everything you buy. I had to start looking at the labels of the foods I was buying. You gotta watch the noodles and snacks and pretty much any processed foods with an ingredient list. I had purchased some cracker chips from Sam’s Club the other day that were organic and gluten free with light sea salt. I thought they would be a good snack for Nicolas… until I got home and discovered they had MILK in them. I purchased some portabella mushroom raviolis the other day from Wal-Mart and they had eggs AND milk in them! Like i said, it’s really hard when practically everything is made with milk or eggs and in my case with Nicolas’s allergies, soy! I guess that means that I will be purchasing less processed foods in the future. If it is made from scratch them you don’t have to read the label, right?
Things I’ve tried this week
So I love shopping on Amazon for tons of stuff. Some important some very, very, not so important. I ordered some Vegan kids shakes for the kiddos and I ordered shake stuff for myself as well. I ordered multivitamins for myself and the kiddos plus some nutritional yeast which for some reason I couldn’t find at any grocery stores near me. I might not have been looking in the right spot. As I said before, this is a whole new learning process for me. It’s like learning how to cook and shop all over again! Here are some of the links for the things I bought in case you wanted to try any of them yourself (Or if you can’t find the nutritional yeast like me! lol). Just make sure that whatever you buy that read the labels very carefully and know what your getting. I meant to get gummies instead of chewable vitamins for the kids and the shake has soy so I won’t be able to give it to Nicolas due to his soy allergy. Just a heads up.
